Spring Open House

Press Release

Catholic Sacred Heart Chinese School will hold an Open House from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on Sunday, April 30, 2006, in St. Clare's Parish's classrooms, at 725 Washington Street, Santa Clara. The Open House is an opportunity for teachers and parents to review the progress made by the students in the past school year.

At the beginning of the school year, teachers outlined the general principles on classroom teaching and activities, and parents then had the opportunity to have their opinions heard. The school principal, James Wang, said that the initial Open House allowed parents to gain insights on the teaching methodology and classroom interactions, and thus could help the students at home to learn Chinese more effectively. An Open House at the end of each school year is our new approach for both the teachers and students.

We welcome all other parents, and all who are interested in the Chinese language and cultural programs to come to this event. Chinese school is held every Sunday afternoon during the school year from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at St. Clare's Parish's classrooms. Sacred Heart Chinese School has small class sizes. Most students are from the new generations of the members of the San Jose Chinese Catholic Community. Teachers are volunteers from the community, and the school uses similar materials and textbooks adopted by other Chinese schools in the region.

School principal Wang pointed out that many students build close bonds and relationships throughout the years, and that these ties are an important part of the interest and drive to learn Chinese. Teachers at the school have a sense of mission to share the Chinese heritage with the young, and view this work as an important ministry in their faith.  Some graduated students come back to help teaching at the school, and we are witnessing this continuity with a great sense of pride and joy.
