The Power of God’s Love By Chiaming Chi During a healing service in the city square of Kinshasa, Zaire, an evangelist prays for a man who had just lost his son eight hours ago. Back at the clinic, the dead son sits up and asks for something to eat. This is only one of the miracles performed by Mahesh Chavda in his worldwide ministry of healing. In his early twenties, when Mahesh was beginning understand what God’s plan for him was, the Lord taught him that only love can make a miracle. Having converted to Christianity in his late teens, Mahesh would often ask in prayer what the Lord wanted him to do. One morning, in 1972, he awoke from his sleep with an overwhelming conviction that he was to go work at the Lubbock State School for Retarded Children. Some of the children had been born to mothers using drugs; some were children of abusive parents. All were severely retarded. These patients were forgotten by the world. Their parents didn’t want them anymore; the majority of them were never visited by anyone. “Can a mother forget her infant? Even should she forget, [the Lord] will never forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15) God loves each and every one of his children; he will never abandon his child. The Lord put an overflowing love in Mahesh for those children. When he was off duty, Mahesh would go to the nonambulatory ward (children who were not able to move around on their own) just to be with them. He would hold them in his arms and pray quietly in the Spirit. One day, one little girl, who had been born blind, turned toward Mahesh when he entered the room and stretched out her hands to welcome him. All the nurses and other attendants in the room were amazed. Not long after that, a little boy who was born with a deformed spine, whom he had also been praying for, was suddenly able to sit up straight. He was healed! Not once had Mahesh prayed that the kids be healed. He just asked the Lord that those children would be able to experience God’s never-ending love for them. He realized that the power of God was to be found in the love of God. “God is love.” (1 John 4:8) Love God and he will reveal his love to you. You will start experiencing wonderful things you have never felt before and will realize how blessed you are to be his child. The power of God’s love is beyond imagination; through love great things happen. Only love can make a miracle. <
