An  Invitation

Tony Fu & Wendar Fu

In an early morning Mass on an ordinary Thursday, God revealed to me that I was going to be laid off from my job, but He did not just stop there!  He told me not to worry because he had arranged something for me ¡§very soon.¡¨  This message prepared me for a disastrous day at work, and his promise provided me strength to handle months of hardship at work; and sure enough, He arranged for me a wonderful job that I¡¦ve always wanted at the end.  On another occasion, God miraculously healed me during a Sunday Mass, and increased my faith before giving testimony to several hundred people.

Ever since my baptism four years ago, I have fallen in love with attending Masses.  In each Mass, the Word of God becomes Flesh and lives among us.  Frequently, the Word of God in scriptures, homilies, hymns, and prayers touch us, heal us, and enlighten us.  Someone once said that Mass is the pinnacle of our faith.  Yes, I believe that one of the biggest mysteries and the most incredible miracle we can witness everyday is the ordinary bread and wine turned into the body and blood of Jesus Christ during Mass.  When Jesus was with us two thousand years ago, he taught, healed, and drove out demons; today, just like two thousand years ago, the risen Christ continues to heal our minds, bodies, and spirits when we are in communion with Him.

Throughout the past several years, we have had many personal encounters with God, and experienced many blessings from God in a variety of ways.  Just like the Samaritan woman, once we have encountered Jesus, we wanted to share the good news with everyone.  We have shared many of our experiences in Bible studies and prayer meetings, and we were moved to write them down in both Chinese and English to share with our bilingual faith community.  We do this to glorify God¡¦s name, and we wish to use these articles to help more believers to recognize the holiness reality of the Mass.

Beginning this January, the SJCCC Monthly editorial staff has kindly allowed us to publish one pair of bilingual articles each month in a column called ¡§Word Became Flesh.¡¨  We know many people also have encounters with God during Mass, and we would like to invite all of you to write down your testimonies and submit them to us for this column (please either E-mail to us at [email protected] or give to us a hardcopy).  If you only write in either English or Chinese, we would be happy to arrange for the articles to be translated.  The general guideline is: the articles are testimonies (not teachings), focused on how we are touched by God during Mass.  The length of the article is about one and half typewritten pages.

We would like to use this opportunity to thank Dick Schumacher, Eugene Lee, and Arthur Shao for their excellent editing efforts.  Without their contribution, the articles would not be as readable.  We also want to thank the SJCCC Newsletter editorial team for their continuing support and encouragement.  May God¡¦s name be glorified forever, and may God open everyone¡¦s spiritual eyes to see God¡¦s glorious and wonderful deeds in our lives to increase our faith.
